A few weeks ago, I was asked by my good friend Austin Shirey of Greasy Hands Barbershop to create a custom motorcycle seat for his new Honda CB750 project. I've never made a seat like this before, so I was instantly up for the opportunity to improve my knowledge and skill set.
Austin wanted something classic, simple, unique and rustic, so we took the seat pan and foam he provided, added our own water repellent wool felt for extra cushion and got to work. We used one of our favorite leathers from Horween. The basic shape was easy, but the compound curve along the back proved to be our biggest challenge. It took stepping away from the project for a week to figure out a solution to not only keep keep the leather on the seat pan, but to ensure that it would stay there permanently. In the end, it turned out way better than we ever expected, and our Austin was stoked about the seat!
See what Austin had to say:
"Dude i just got this seat in and I'm blown away. So blown away man. Everybody that sees this seat is gonna be floored. it's more awesome looking than any custom seat I've seen. Thanks so much for all the extra work you put in on this. Know that it is very much appreciated. I'll shoot you a pic as soon as I get it on the bike."
